I have been in practice for almost 15 years, and specialise in offering assistance to those with musculoskeletal injuries, aches & pains, mobility concerns and overall well being. Whether from sporting endeavours, or simply day-to-day activities, occupations and daily life, sports therapy is for everyone across all age levels! I also offer sports/deep tissue massage treatments, with optional use of hot stones & cupping therapy.
Alongside clinic work, I currently work as a casual soft tissue therapist with the First Team at Norwich City Football Club, a role I also undertook on a part-time basis during the 2016-17 season. I previously held the role as the lead pitch side therapist at Wroxham Football Club for 5 years from 2010 – 2015, and as part of the pitch side medical team at the Academies of both Ipswich and Norwich City Football Clubs. During the 2021-22 Premier League season, I provided soft tissue therapy support to the match officials at Norwich City home games. I also had a stint as a lecturer at Norwich City College, guiding students through a Sports Injuries unit in the first year of their Sport, Exercise & Health degree.
My educational background began with 2:1 BSc (Hons) Sports Science degree, graduating in 2002, followed by completing an Advanced L5 Diploma in Sports Therapy in 2007 with a distinction. I have attended a wide and varied source of training courses, events and seminars across my many years in practice, to ensure my knowledge is kept up to date and based on current evidence-based research. I am a keen advocate of establishing the root cause of an injury or reoccurring problem, rather than just treating the symptoms.
I am currently studying for my L4 Strength & Conditioning qualification to be able to provide greater depth and linkage to the services & treatments that I currently offer. So watch this space!
My approach to soft tissue work is all about desensitising the nervous system, calming it down, and allowing the body to relax, entering “flight” mode. There’s no point in triggering the nervous system into “fight” mode by the whole “no pain, no gain” message we often hear. Not all deep tissue massage/sports massage is painful. There may be some areas which are uncomfortable, but there is no point is creating additional pain to those areas
I am passionate about enabling and educating my clients that simple changes, movements and exercises can really make a big difference to their lives, and giving them the confidence to perform movements safely. Working together to find the root causes of more chronic issues, or with more acute injuries, managing them in an appropriate and timely manner. And most importantly, treating each person as an individual, and not applying a cookie cutter approach to their issues.
My mantra is most definitely “movement is medicine”.
Away from the clinic, my exercise regime is varied. I enjoy running, and over recent years have completed 8 half marathons. I also ensure I work on maintaining & improving my strength by attending classes 2-3 times a week. And not forgetting my mobility work, with self-guided movement flows! It’s all about balance! I also walk as much as I can, and especially enjoy getting out on the local trails and coastal path with friends. I did play netball for many years from my childhood, but did make the decision to stop a couple of years ago, as other things took more of a priority. I am still involved in other ways with local club Norfolk United, assisting their national Premier League team at their home matches as their Primary Carer.
